The Galapagos Islands are the most incredible living museum of evolutionary changes, with a huge variety of exotic species (birds, land animals, plants) and landscapes not seen anywhere else.

I would like to mention that the reference to "The average cost of a seven-night cruise - excluding flights and a stay in Quito - is £2,500" is not accurate.

Although UK travelers may be quoted these rates from agencies in Europe & the UK (which are astronomically high compared to real rates found in Ecuador), this would mean that the average 7-night cruise rate is about USD $3600 [depending on the exchange rate at the time of calculation].

Average 7-night cruise rates (and I am basing it on mid-range cruise options) range from USD $2000 to $2500 (which is £1400 to £1700). I should mention that economic options start at about £960 and luxury options can go as high as £3400.

With the recent global financial crisis, many Galapagos yacht operators (mainly mid to high end options) have either temporarily dropped their rates, or offering attractive incentives like 2x1, air line ticket included etc. For real examples of these offers, see http://sangay.wordpress.com

Now is the time to travel to Galapagos if you have some money saved up.
